(July 4, 2020)
Following a committee meeting on 3 July, we have taken the difficult decision to continue with the closure of our clubhouse for the foreseeable future. Whilst I appreciate this decision will not be popular in all quarters, we had to put the safety of our members first. This was followed by the need to protect our financial future as an association.
We will be reviewing this decision towards the end of July with a view to potentially opening sometime in September – but will only open when the club is fully ready with the cleanest, safest and best facilities in the town. It is vital that when we do open, nothing is left to chance and we have a compelling and very safe offer for members to come down to. We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure we achieve this, as the current restrictions may be in for some time to come.
On the plus side however, we can now commence beach and boat angling again, albeit also within present safety guidelines. The Beach competitions will begin from next Sunday (July 12th) at Samphire Hoe and the boat will start with the Bass Festival on July 24th- 26th.
Les already has a full set of safety rules for the beach that are strictly enforced and Bill/ Edward are just pulling together the same for the boat now the guidance has changed. The boat fixture on the 12th July is still cancelled however, to allow time for the appropriate preparations to be put in place for the Bass Festival.
I will, as always, update you all as soon as there is anything else to add.
